project overview
The challenge

After analysing the heat map, it became evident that when users first arrive at the website, they encounter a lack of clear guidance. The website does not promptly convey its intended audience, necessitating users to scroll down on the navbar to find information about its target users. Additionally, the website's overarching goals remain elusive, with no visible calls to action to guide users. Compounding these issues, the landing page utilises horizontal scrolling, which demands extra effort from users. Typically, users must move their mouse pointer to a specific screen area, initiate a click-and-drag action, or simply click. Regrettably, such horizontal scrolling implementations tend to result in a jittery design, ultimately compromising the overall user experience.

The outcome

Upon completing the redesign of Ernest's website in response to the identified issues, the outcome was nothing short of transformative. The revamped site now welcomes users with a clear and intuitive interface, addressing the initial challenge of user confusion. It efficiently communicates its target audience and purpose right from the landing page, eliminating the need for users to scroll extensively. Furthermore, the introduction of prominent calls to action guides visitors seamlessly through the site, fostering user engagement and interaction. A notable enhancement was the replacement of horizontal scrolling with a more user-friendly vertical navigation, resulting in a smoother and more enjoyable user experience. Overall, the website's redesign successfully rectified the initial problems, offering an improved and user-centric platform that effectively conveys its purpose and engages visitors.

The approach

In addressing the challenges posed by Ernest's website and devising a superior web design solution, a meticulous and strategic approach was imperative. Initially, a comprehensive analysis was conducted, focusing on user behaviour and feedback. Armed with valuable insights from this evaluation, the strategy prioritised clarity and user-centricity. The revamped design placed a premium on intuitive navigation, ensuring that users could readily identify the website's purpose and target audience upon landing. Prominent calls to action were strategically integrated throughout the site to enhance user engagement. The transition from horizontal to vertical scrolling was a pivotal change, streamlining the user experience. Additionally, a seamless fusion of animation and interactions was employed to captivate visitors and communicate the essence of Ernest's work effectively. This holistic approach transformed the website into an engaging and purpose-driven platform, effectively resolving the initial issues while invigorating the user experience.

the process:

Before delving into the detailed phases of the redesign process, our approach for Ernest's website followed a structured and thorough path. We commenced with wireframing to ensure an intuitive user experience, then proceeded to craft the visual identity through mock-ups, and ultimately executed the development phase with precision. This method allowed us to comprehensively address the initial challenges and enhance the website's overall performance and aesthetics. Below is a breakdown of the key phases in our redesign journey:

  • Wireframing: Our initial focus was on optimizing the user experience (UX) by meticulously wireframing the site. We defined the overall site structure and navigation flow to ensure seamless user exploration.
  • Mockup: Transitioning from wireframing, we delved into the user interface (UI) during the mock-up phase. Here, we incorporated all elements of the visual identity, including colours, fonts, and graphical elements, to breathe life into the design concept.
  • Development: The development phase brought the mock-up to reality, with careful attention to detail. We integrated animations to enhance user engagement and diligently applied responsive design principles for optimal performance across various devices. This comprehensive process resulted in a redesigned website that not only resolved initial issues but also elevated the overall user experience and visual appeal.

THE web design
PROCESS

For me, steps to design a website requires 7 steps:

  1. Goal identification: Where I work with the client to determine what goals the new website needs to fulfils. (for example, what its purpose is).
  2. Scope definition: Once we know the site's goals, we can define the scope of the project. I.e., what web pages and features the site requires to fulfils the goal, and the timeline for building those out.
  3. Sitemap and wireframe creation: With the scope well-defined, we can start digging into the sitemap, defining how the content and features we defined in scope definition will interrelate.
  4. Content creation: Now that we have a bigger picture of the site in mind, we can start creating content for the individual pages, always keeping search engine optimisation (SEO) in mind to help keep pages focused on a single topic.
  5. Visual elements: With the site architecture we can start design the UI of the website following the brand identity guideline (if there is one).
  6. Testing: By now, we've got all your pages and defined how they display to the site visitor, so it's time to make sure it all works.
  7. Launch: Once everything's working beautifully, it's time to plan and execute your site launch! This should include planning both launch timing and communication strategies .

the results

The result of our collaborative efforts was the meticulously designed prototype of Ernest's website, crafted using Webflow. This prototype now stands as a dynamic representation of our shared vision, ready to be brought to life when Ernest is prepared to proceed. The prototype effectively communicates the website's aesthetic, functionality, and user experience, providing Ernest with a tangible preview of the final product. With this foundation in place, we are poised to embark on the next phase of the project, where we will transform this prototype into a fully functional and captivating online platform that aligns seamlessly with Ernest's storytelling and objectives.

The result of the brand identity redesign played a pivotal role in elevating Deli Casablanca's presence on the high street. The striking and meaningful logo, featuring the "Tree of Life," not only captured the essence of the brand but also served as a visual beacon. It adorned signage, menus, and all marketing materials, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. The images vividly showcase how the logo's aesthetics seamlessly integrated with the physical space, effectively drawing in passersby and instilling a sense of authenticity and quality in every meal kit offered. This newfound brand identity not only helped Deli Casablanca stand out in a crowded market but also resonated deeply with customers, inviting them to experience the exceptional quality and rich traditions of Moroccan cuisine.

Conclusion

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
